www.thewinedetective.co.uk reviews Bisol

"When I was asked if I would like to visit Prosecco country by Bisol, a leading Prosecco producer, I confess that I was very much in two minds as to whether or not to go. What changed my mind…well if you visit, www.bisol.it, you’ll see for yourself. This is proper wine country – steep hills, terraces and the like and, of course, most importantly, it shows in the quality of the wines which are highly rated in the Gambero Rosso and other wine guides. Jolly glad I went and checked it out for myself (note to self – stay open-minded). Visit www.bibendum-wine.co.uk, for prices of those Bisol wines stocked in the UK.

_. Bisol Jeio Prosecco di Valdobbiadene DOC Brut – this is the baby of the range and Brut is the driest style – a fruity nose with pear skin; flavoursome, fruity palate with candied citrus hints and lemony acidity.
_. Bisol Crede Prosecco di Valdobbiadene DOC Brut – made from grapes grown on the steep hills of the Poderi Bisol and named after its marine clay "crede" soils it shows a fine, persistent bead, lovely delicate floral nose with fresh naschi pear and a smooth, quite rich palate of honeyed pears. Delicious!
_. Bisol Jeio Prosecco di Valdobbiadene DOC Extra Dry – Extra Dry is actually sweeter than Brut and it is Prosecco’s traditional style – just off dry. Peachy fruit with ripe pear and a lively mousse – lots of flavour.
_. Bisol Vigneti Del Fol Prosecco di Valdobbiadene DOC Extra Dry – the vineyards of Fol extend from the southernmost part of the most famous Prosecco zone, Cartizze. They are steep and hilly with sandstone, clay and sand and produce a wine of great finesse. A seductive acacia and almond nose leads onto a rich, honeyed palate with hints of almond paste/pastry. The long finish shows salty, mineral notes.
_. Bisol Garnei Prosecco di Valdobbiadene DOC Dry - this is only released two years after vintage and is made from selected grapes from the best vines. It shows a more vinous character with white orchard fruits, quince and acacia, its extra grams of sugar evident in its rich, creamy mouthfeel.
_. Bisol Cartizze Prosecco di Valdobbiadene Superiore di Cartizze DOC – the Cartizze zone has fossil-rich sandstone soils and enjoys a magnificent steep site. Its excellent exposure and marked diurnal temperature variation lead to late harvested, particularly concentrated fruit. This wine has a classic Prosecco floral, sweet pear nose but the palate shows Cartizze muscle: real depth and structure, the merest hint of oak tannin which balances its sweet pear and honeysuckle palate.
Bisol Duca di Dolle Passito – this (still) antique gold sweetie is made from 100% Prosecco grapes, dried to concentrate the sugars and aged solera style (so it is effectively a blend of different vintages). It shows a complex nose of slightly smoky, singed tarte tatin and vanilla bean which follow through on the palate”. Sarah Ahmed
